We stopped at Bad Wolf Bar B Q while returning from a trip to the mountains a short time ago. I thought I could fit one more restaurant into our trip so I did a Google Search near Roanoke, VA.
Where’s Bad Wolf Bar B Q Located?
Bad Wolf Bar B Q is located at 5236 Williamson Rd. That is also Route 11 for anyone not familiar with Roanoke, VA. They aren’t far off of Interstate 581 or Route 460 Business. We came off of the Blue Ridge Parkway and picked up 460 I believe. My best advice would be to let your GPS get you there if you don’t know your way around. That’s what I did.
The Restaurant and Staff:
They have a large dining room at Bad Wolf Bar B Q. They have hardwood floors as well. We were greeted as soon as we came in. We were early for dinner so there wasn’t anyone else there when we arrived. A couple more came in while we were there. Our waitress was very friendly although she did let our drinks go dry. At one point we stopped eating to wait for her so we could get refills. I don’t know how others feel but letting my drink go dry is bad for tips. Having to stop eating because my drink has been empty and I can’t eat anymore is dreadful for tips. For the record, I’m normally a good tipper, but I do believe that the waitress/waiter has to do a little work for it. This wasn’t the case here. Sad since like I said our waitress was friendly, just not efficient.
Our Choices at Bad Wolf Bar B Q:
I picked the Pork Plate with Cajun Fries and Baked Beans. The pork surprised me. Looking at it I didn’t think it was going to be very good. It was packed into a 6 oz. bowl. It did have a pretty good smoke flavor and a slight vinegar taste. You choose vinegar or tomato based sauce when you order. So the pork turned out to be pretty good. I also added some of their vinegar sauce and their hot sauce to try them out. The hot sauce wasn’t very hot. I liked the vinegar sauce better. The Cajun fries were very good. I love it when restaurants change things from the ordinary. Simply adding Cajun seasoning to fries really sets them apart from other places. Good job Bad Wolf Bar B Q with the Cajun Fries. The beans had a really good flavor too. They use a thick sauce with a good blend of seasoning. The plate also came with slaw and hushpuppies. The slaw was just ok, not great, while the puppies were really good.
Tammy ordered their Cheddar Melt Pork BBQ Sandwich. It had melted cheddar and sautéed onions on a toasted bun with slaw. She also had a side of Macaroni Salad. The sandwich was pretty good. With this you also choose either the vinegar or tomato based sauce to go on it. The Macaroni Salad was the weakest link. It tasted store bought and was watery. Would recommend passing on that.
Final Thoughts:
Well this is where I may get in a little trouble with my thoughts. I think that Bad Wolf Bar B Q is probably a pretty good place for locals. We went pretty far out of our way from the Blue Ridge Parkway to get here. I just don’t think I’d do that again. However, I would not have a problem stopping there again if I were in that part of Roanoke. That said I believe that Bad Wolf Bar B Q is more for the local area.
