County Grill and Smokehouse actually has two locations. One is in Hampton, VA and the other is in Yorktown, VA. We have been to both but prefer the Hampton location so I will stick to them for my review.

First, if you don’t know where they are located you probably need to use a gps for help. They are easy to miss the first time you go if you’re not familiar with the area. They are however worth finding.

County Grill and Smokehouse, Ribs and Pulled Pork Combo.

Their pulled pork, ribs, and brisket are all very good.

County Grill and Smokehouse’s pulled pork comes without sauce. They have several different sauces to

choose from if you want to add to it. Without the sauce the pork has a very nice smoke flavor with very little spice. Good just the way it’s served. For a real treat I sometimes get the Battlefield Nachos with pulled pork instead of chicken. I’ve had it both ways but really like the pork. I get these for lunch sometimes. You either need to be really hungry or bring a friend. This is a very large portion of food. I also enjoy the pork platter with sides.

The brisket has a really good flavor and was served without sauce also. It had a nice smoke ring and good smoke flavor. It usually comes pretty lean so sometimes it may lean a little to the dry side. It seems that a lot of places do the same thing with their brisket. More and more I’m siding with the moist brisket which has a little more fat in it but is much moister. Not to take away from the brisket here, it’s still pretty good.

County Grill and Smokehouse, Tumbleweed Sandwich

County Grill and Smokehouse also has a brisket sandwich named the “Tumbleweed”. That puppy is really good…really really. In addition to the brisket it has fried onion strips and cheese on a killer bun. This is an excellent lunch choice. Also a large portion.

As for the ribs, they are served with some sauce. They are wonderful. I have had both the baby backs and the St. Louis style ribs here and enjoyed them both. I do prefer the baby backs.

County Grill and Smokehouse Desserts

We have had dessert here a couple of times and they were awesome. However, most of the time there is no room for it after the meal. Plan accordingly.

Look ‘em up and hunt ‘em down. You’ll be glad you did.

I’d also like to mention a few things about their service and management. The evening of our most recent visit would have been a challenge for any restaurant. There was a party of 30+ teachers already there when we arrived. Though the dining room was quite noisy we decided to stay. Our waiter was prompt and very friendly. We found out later in the evening that he was fairly new. He did a very good job considering what was going on around him and us. Our food was probably a little slow getting out due to the crowded party but not too long. The really cool thing was that when our order did come out everything was warm and perfectly cooked. We couldn’t have asked for better. We both got the special they were running that night which had 1/3 rack of St. Louis Style Ribs, Sliced Brisket and Pulled Pork with two sides. All the food was really good this night. Quite a feat with all the food they were putting out for the party. While all of this was going on the manager still managed to come around to check on people also. All the wait staff chipped in to get everyone served. I think everyone there from management, the wait staff and the cook staff all did a great job. Before we left another party of 30+ people came in to add to the chaos.

So with everything going on this night it would be very wrong of me to write about County Grill and Smokehouse without mentioning this. Great job everyone!

Note: They do have a full bar so if you’re not into that I’d avoid going there late in the evening.
