On our way to the Outer Banks we stopped at Currituck BBQ Company in Coinjock, NC. They have a great location right on Highway 158 just north of the Coinjock Bridge.
When you go in you place your order at a counter and pay for it there also. They will call out your number when your food is ready. You can dine in or take it out to their picnic tables located under a very large shelter. We always eat in.
This trip I ordered the pork and brisket combo plate. Both the pork and brisket are chopped pretty fine. Not quite like a minced bbq but somewhere between that and chopped. Hard to really pinpoint the texture. Normally I prefer pulled pork and sliced brisket. Currituck BBQ Company’s pork does have a pretty good flavor though. The brisket was good but I don’t think of it as great. My sides were fried okra and baked beans. Both were good but again not great. They did make nice side orders to round out my meal. Oh, the hushpuppies were very good. I would stick with the pork and not get the brisket. Or go for some ribs next time.
Tammy got their burnt ends with mac & cheese and beets. She really enjoyed both of her sides and said the beets were very good. I didn’t try them. I did help her out with the burnt ends and they were really
good. They don’t use a sauce on them, just smoked and whatever seasonings they use. If you don’t want the pork go for the burnt ends. Currituck BBQ Company is one of the few places that we’ve been able to get burnt ends in the VA/NC Coastal areas. If you’ve never heard of burnt ends you need to give them a try.
All in all this is a very nice stop along the way to or from the Outer Banks or if you’re just out for a joy ride (we still do those in our Jeep). They have some really good food and the people have always been very nice and friendly to us.
Currituck BBQ Company is well worth the visit. Locals must approve also since they always seem to do a good business no matter what time of year or time of the week we stop here.
Have you been to Currituck BBQ Company? What did you think?
How about some of you locals putting your thoughts out here. I know there are a lot of you around there. Did I do them justice?
