Dixie Bones BBQ Post

Today we’re going to stop by Dixie Bones BBQ Post in Fredericksburg, VA. We’ve made a few runs up around Fredericksburg and this one was on our list to check out. Located on Route 3, Plank Road, we just let my faithful “Lady in the Box, who lives in my phone guide us in. So let’s see how it went.

The Restaurant and Staff:

Dixie Bones BBQ Post seems to be in a pretty good location even though I don’t know much about Fredericksburg. They are on the corner of a strip of stores. I have to say I was a little concerned when we arrived at dinner time and there was only one table occupied. I looked around and everything looked nice, the place was clean, where was everyone? Well we went to the counter and the young lady working it greeted us with a smile. They were very friendly. You could see into the kitchen and the people there were very busy just taking care of everything and cleaning while business was slow. Well we stayed on track and gave them a try. We placed our order at the counter then chose a seat. Someone brought our food to us shortly after. Here’s what we went with.

Our Choices at Dixie Bones BBQ Post:

On this trip Tammy ordered a Giant Stuffed Potato. Stuffed with butter, sour cream, cheese and your choice of BBQ. Tammy went with the Beef. They were exactly right, this is a huge baked potato. The pulled beef topping the potato was pretty good. It had a nice smoke flavor, not over powering, and slightly sauced with a KC type bbq sauce. Don’t be worried about the sauce, it was good and they didn’t drown the meat in it. So this turned into a good choice for Tammy. She really enjoyed her meal.

Well of course I chose a 3 Meat Platter. I opted for Pulled Pork, Beef, and Ribs. For sides I went with Muddy Potatoes and Baked Beans. The muddy potatoes were great. They were some sort of cheesy baked casserole. I loved them. And the baked beans were wonderful as well. The seasoning was really good with

these. And before I get into the meats, let me say the hushpuppies were delicious. They also came with my platter.

The beef was the same as on Tammy’s potato so no need to continue with it. The ribs were good, just not my favorite. They just had too much sauce for me. They were tender and fall off the bone so if you like sauce on your ribs you’ll probably enjoy these. The pork was really good. You could see some smoke ring and it did have a light smoke flavor. It was pulled in chunks. Of the three meats I enjoyed the pork the best. Probably just because there was no sauce involved with it. The beef was pretty good too. For me personally I’d probably pass on the ribs next time mainly because of the sauce.

Final Thoughts:

As it turned out we were pleasantly surprised with Dixie Bones Post. What started out as some doubt because of the lack of customers turned into a nice dinner. And by the way business did pick up some while we were there as well as a pretty good amount of take-out orders leaving there. That did make me feel better too. I thought the people were friendly, the restaurant was clean and the food was good. I’d say give them a try to see what you think. They’re on the outskirts of Fredericksburg just off of I-95 so it’s pretty easy to jump off the Interstate for a bite.
