We stumbled upon Le’ Pough’s BBQ in South Chesterfield while looking for antique shops. Total accident. While we have done some internet searches in this area for bbq, we’ve never found this place. Yes, we made another gem of a find.
Where Is Le’ Pough’s BBQ?
Le’ Pough’s BBQ is located at 16801 Jefferson Davis Hwy. in South Chesterfield, VA. So how do you get to them? I hope some locals will help give some better directions but here’s what I have. From I-95 South out of Richmond you can take Exit 58A on Woods Edge Rd. west toward Jefferson Davis Hwy. Make a left on J.D. Hwy. You should be about a mile and a half from them. They will be on your left.
From I-95 North out of Petersburg you can take Exit 54, Temple Ave. Go left on Temple Ave. to the end and make a right on Boulevard which turns into Jefferson Davis Hwy. This is Rt. 301. From here you have about a 3 – 4 mile ride and they will be on the right.
GPS will work well on this one just make sure you don’t do what I did and go to the food truck location at Fort Lee.
What We Ate:
Oh have mercy. You need to be hungry when you go here. I read one complaint on Yelp about their bbq price. Really? Take a look at the picture of my three meat combo with two sides. It cost $16 for all of that food. The drink was a dollar extra. And yes, prices are subject to change. Don’t hold me or them to this price.
Like I said, I had a three meat combo with two sides. I chose Rib Tips, Pork, and Brisket with Smoked Cabbage and Mac & Cheese. Before I get talking about the meats let me just say that both the smoked cabbage and the mac & cheese were awesome. They had great seasoning. Comfort food prepared just as good as any. That said, here’s the lowdown on the meats. The rib tips were just that, the top portion of a rack of ribs. A lot of them had the same bark quality as burnt ends. They were wonderful. Followed by the pork. The pork had an awesome smoke flavor. It really needed no sauce. The meat was moist, tender, and flavorful. Finally the brisket. It was moist, tender and just melted in your mouth. My words fail me on this one. All three meat choices were just delicious. They each came with just a slight amount of a mustard style sauce on them. Do not knock it until you try it. Mustard sauces are not usually my favorites but this one was really good. Give them a
chance with it.
Tammy also had the Rib Tips with Smoked Cabbage and Mac & Cheese. Her feelings? Very quiet on her side of the table except for some noises which led me to believe she was really into it. When she came up for air she said she loved it all. Yep we really enjoyed the food at Le’ Pough’s Bar-B-Que.
The Restaurant and Staff:
The Restaurant is small and very plain on the inside. They have a few tables and a counter that you can sit at. The dining room was very clean and we were welcomed as soon as we opened the door. Our waitress, Terry, was very friendly as well as helpful with our choices. The young man that helped her and prepared the food was very friendly as well. They knew we were new but we were treated just like a regular. I just love finding places like this.
After we had finished our meals we talked to Terry a little about the restaurant. She told us a little about the owner and that they had been in this location about a year. We told her about the blog and that I’d be writing a review about the place. I assured her that it was all good and I thought that they would like the review. I hope I was true to my word. I will say that I’m very sincere about what I’ve written about Le’ Pough’s Bar-B-Que. She seemed excited that we had found them and were going to put this out there. Again, these are the places that I really love.
