We found Moore’s Olde Tyme Barbeque while we were making our “Jeep Ride” along NC 11. Seems like we hit a hot spot for bbq down there. Our first impression was that they looked like a chain restaurant but according to their website they are not. Well we decided to check them out and here’s how it went.
Where’s Moore’s Olde Tyme Barbeque Located?
Moore’s Olde Tyme Barbeque is in Winterville, NC right on NC 11. Winterville is just south of Greenville, NC. I tell ya, it’s a great ride from VA into NC on Hwy. 11. There are long stretches thru farmland, some small towns, and a couple larger towns. Greenville is probably the largest. Take advantage of those areas for gas and restrooms when you see them.
The Restaurant and Staff:
As I said, our first impression was we were at a chain restaurant. I didn’t mind if they were but turns out that they are not a chain. You place your order at the counter when you arrive. After ordering you can pick out a table and they will bring your order to you. Everyone was very friendly and helpful since this was our first visit. The dining room was pretty good size. It had plenty of tables and booths. It really seemed like Moore’s Old Tyme Barbeque was a pretty good place to eat. They were doing a good business when we arrived. They handled the rush very well and everyone from the other guests to the employees seemed to be pretty happy.
Our Choices at Moore’s Olde Tyme Barbeque:
Well Moore’s Olde Tyme Barbeque doesn’t serve ribs or brisket. They have bbq, chicken and some seafood. You can add pretty much anything they have on the menu to your bbq plate but I passed this time.
I ordered the BBQ Plate with Baked Beans and Brunswick Stew. My plate was also served with hushpuppies. The baked beans were very good. I also liked the Brunswick Stew. It came with a little kick. Not super-hot but a little spicy.
The bbq was good as well. It was typical NC style. It wasn’t like coming straight in from the smoker but still good. The hushpuppies were killer.
Tammy ordered the BBQ and White Chicken Combo Plate. She ordered hers with slaw and Brunswick Stew. Once she tried the stew she passed it over to me. Just a little too much spice for her. The slaw was mayo based and pretty good as well.
The chicken was excellent. She gave me the wing to try and kept the breast. Moore’s does a great job with their fried chicken.
With both of our plates you get a lot of food. I think with Tammy’s combo plate she got even more food than I did. If you’re very hungry, go for the bbq and chicken combo.
Final Thoughts:
You know, the more I think about Moore’s Olde Tyme Barbeque the more I like them. We had a very nice meal there, everyone was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. They get your food out pretty quickly too. There are plenty of fast food places near them but I just can’t see going to a fast food restaurant over a stop at Moore’s. I would gladly stop there again.
