Rib City in Virginia Beach, VA is a pretty awesome place for, you guessed it, ribs. Their promise is that if you have to use a knife on the baby back ribs, they will pay your bill. So far I’ve paid my own bills.
Where Is Rib City?
Rib City is located at 4688 Princess Anne Rd. in Virginia Beach, VA. They are in their own building in the Wood Tide Shopping Center. If you’re familiar with Virginia Beach you probably know more and better ways to get there. But for those of us that are not that familiar with it you can take I-264 to S. Witchduck Rd. That will take you to Princess Anne Rd. Take a left and you are probably less than a mile from Rib City on your left.
What We Ate:
Our most recent visit to Rib City was for lunch one day. I had the Baby Back Rib and Pulled Pork Combo with BBQ Beans and Fries. The ribs were very tender as advertised with good smoke flavor. I did not try any with sauce this time. They were however some of the smallest ribs I’ve ever had, but really good none the less. The pulled pork had a slight smoke flavor with a hint of vinegar added to it. I liked it a lot. The beans were cooked and served in a bbq sauce. They were pretty good but actually a little too sweet for me. They are worth a try. You may like them that way.
Tammy ordered the Smoked Beef Plate with Slaw and the BBQ Beans. The beef was really good. It’s not Brisket. It’s more like a roast beef. They slice it very thin like you might put on a sandwich. It was surprisingly good, much better than I expected. The beef just had a really good smoked flavor. Just don’t order it with brisket in mind. They do not compare.
Two drawbacks that limit our number of visits to Rib City is that they do not have brisket or Brunswick Stew.
We’ve also tried their smoked turkey. It’s pretty good even though turkey is not my favorite.
Their fried okra appetizer is really good too. It’s served with a ranch dressing dip, regular or spicy. Now I do not like ranch dressing but I tried the spicy and it’s very good. Doesn’t taste like ranch, but it is a little on the spicy side so be aware.
The Restaurant and Staff:
Inside the restaurant is casual. They have a nice size dining area. It has always been clean and well kept. They do have quite a bit of military decorations which I really like and to be expected considering the area they are located. In addition they also have some old type photos around along with some fishing decorations. It’s really quite pleasant.
We have always had good service and the employees are very friendly. This visit was no different. We were greeted at the door and showed to our table. Our waitress came by to get our drink order and introduce herself. She was very nice and knew the food on the menu, that’s a plus. The manager usually gets around to check on everyone also. We didn’t see one today but that may be more of a dinner thing. That’s a nice touch that many other places should take note of.
So, if you’re looking for some really good ribs you should check out Rib City in Virginia Beach.
