I found Shaw’s Barbecue House on the internet one day while planning a Jeep ride. With perfect weather it was a great opportunity for a topless ride and to find a new BBQ Restaurant to check out.
This time it paid off. A really nice ride and a good bbq stop too.
We both got the “Pig Picker” which is their version of pulled pork. For sides we got cabbage, slaw, and baked beans. I threw in a bowl of Brunswick Stew too.
So, the sides were homemade and really, really good. The Stew was very good also as was the corn bread sticks. I don’t know if they were fresh made or not but I just pictured them coming out of an old cast iron corn stick pan.
The pork was very good also. I tried their NC sauce and their Hot sauce. The NC was good. Stay away from the hot unless you really like it hot. They were serious when they put hot on the label.
Finally, for dessert we had a piece of homemade carrot cake. It was great. You have to save room for it if they have some.
The restaurant is just a small place in Williamston, NC but very nice and it’s clean. They also have a meat counter where you can buy sausage and other meats.
While Williamston may be off the beaten path, this place is worth a visit if you have the time. Personally I like to make time for these things.
So, anyone else with thoughts on Shaw’s BBQ, feel free to comment and let’s see what others think about them.
