Smithfield Chicken N BBQ seems to be a “local” chain in NC. Looking on their web-site, they say that they have 36 locations. I know that we have eaten in at least two different locations. Our first was in Smithfield, NC so I’m going to stick mainly with this one.
We really liked this place. I had the large bbq platter and helped my wife with her fried chicken & bbq combo plate. Both the chicken and the bbq were very good. Along with my meal I chose French fries and baked beans. I also had to try some Brunswick Stew, it was delicious. In fact on my last visit, which I think was in Dunn, NC, I ordered some stew to bring back home to VA. They helped me by packing the container in a plastic bag and putting it on ice to make the trip.
I also want to mention their hush puppies…Have mercy. Need I say more? They are wonderful.
Everyone that we have been around in these restaurants have been fantastic. They are always really friendly and as helpful as they can be.
When you enter you place your order at a counter and then have a seat. They bring your food to you. The décor is relaxing. It’s kind of old fashioned like from the diner days of the past. I just really liked the whole experience we had at both locations. The food was just as good at both locations.
Smithfield also makes a good road trip for us. Just north is Red River Western Wear, located in Selma, NC. It’s only about 5 – 10 minutes away. Looking for cowboy boots is a favorite pass time of mine to work up an appetite. Or for the daring, the Premium Outlet Shops is located only about 5 minutes away right off the interstate.
I love it when going for bbq becomes an adventure.
So if you’re traveling in NC, be it I-95, I-85, or along the southern NC coastline, chances are that you’re somewhere close to a Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. They are well worth the visit. I think if you do you’ll enjoy your visit.
