Smokin' Eddie's BBQ

This road trip takes Tammy and me to Smokin’ Eddie’s BBQ in Louisa, VA. Located on Main St. they were pretty easy to find. I believe we picked up Hwy. 522 from I-64 then to Hwy. 33 and right into town. It really was a pretty ride. I wish we were doing some of these rides in nicer weather when we could go topless. In the Jeep. Well on this Saturday we were racing a weather report calling for their area to get 6” of snow or more. We needed to eat and get back east of Richmond before all of that came in. And yes, we made it with plenty of time. Even took a little bit of the scenic route home.

The Restaurant and Staff:

Smokin’ Eddie’s BBQ is located in a downtown shop. The restaurant appears to be an older building that has been fixed up really nice. Actually the area they are in seems to be renovated very nicely. Looks like Louisa wanted to spruce up their downtown area. I’d love to have spent a little more time looking around but like I said we were watching the weather.

Inside, the restaurant was very clean and comfortable. They had lots of pig décor and just a relaxing feel in there. When we arrived there was one lady, Dana, waiting tables and another one working the kitchen. They worked very well together to keep orders moving. So Dana was our waitress. She was very nice to us. At first she thought we were just passing through and heading back east to beat the snow. She helped us out with our orders and came back frequently to check on us. We really enjoyed talking to her.

As I was talking to Dana before we left she told me that they started out in the business with a food truck. They were called Patrick’s BBQ then. Nice name, just saying. When they started the restaurant they changed the name to Smokin’ Eddie’s BBQ. However, a lot of the locals still call them Patrick’s. I would have liked to talk more but we needed to get on our way back home.

Our Choices at Smokin’ Eddie’s BBQ:

Smokin' Eddie's BBQ

Brisket Dinner Plate with Green Beans and Mac & Cheese.

Tammy ordered the Brisket Dinner Plate. Her two sides were Mac & Cheese and Green Beans. The mac & cheese was really good. It had plenty of cheese and made a wonderful side with the brisket. The green beans were good as well. They had a nice seasoning to them. So both sides complimented the meal very well.

The brisket had a very good smoke flavor. It was pulled. Even though Tammy prefers her brisket sliced, she enjoyed this style today. It had a slight amount of sauce mixed in which kept everything nice and moist.

I ordered a Pork and Brisket Dinner Plate. For sides I went

with Baked Beans and Slaw. I really enjoyed the baked beans. They had a sweet sauce and just a real good

flavor. The slaw was good also. It had a mayo base with just a pinch of sweet to it. I like both of my sides.

Smokin' Eddie's BBQ

Pork and Brisket Dinner Plate with Slaw and Baked Beans.

The Pork was chopped. It had some good smoke to it and an excellent flavor. I believe that Smokin’ Eddie’s BBQ uses hickory wood to smoke their meats and it adds so much flavor to them. As for the brisket, mine was the same as Tammy’s. I think I enjoyed it a little more than she did. I was ok with the pulled instead of the sliced. I just wrote it up as something different. I like different. The only sad part of this trip is that we were an hour too early to get ribs. I really wanted to try them out too. Well, maybe another trip.

Dessert Anyone:

Homemade Carrot Cake at Smokin’ Eddie’s BBQ.

Tammy and I both had a piece of Carrot Cake for dessert. Did I mention homemade carrot cake? Oh my, it was awesome. At first we were going to share one. Tammy started while I finished my meal. I tried a taste of the cake and ordered my own. You will need to save some room for this.

Final Thoughts:

Well even though we had to rush in and out due to the weather, I still enjoyed our visit to Smokin’ Eddie’s BBQ. They have a really nice little family operation going. Their sides and desserts are homemade and all were excellent. We love finding places like this in the small towns. I just wish we could have stayed a little while. I may have stuck around to try the ribs. But there were also a couple of shops we thought looked cool. With our travels to the many different restaurants, we love to find shops and different things to check out along the way. So to me, Smokin’ Eddie’s BBQ is a very nice stop on the BBQ Trail. We loved the area, the people and we had a really good meal. And yes, we will be back for another visit.
